Is probably only a form of √ śri, from which it is at some points hardly separable. The interrelations of the roots śṛ, śrā, śri, śrī are intricate, and not yet fully worked out. Especially doubtful is it what is the connection with them of the noun śrī́ V.+ “fortune”, and the related śriyás RV., śréyas V.+, śréṣṭha V.+, śremán B.
