A very perplexing root in its varietics of meaning; divided into two or three roots (on different lines) by BR. and Grassmann. It is treated by the grammarians as filling up the conjugation of √ aj.

véti v PPP vītá 1 (q.v.) seek, pursue, strive after, fall upon, attack, win, take hold of, enjoy; undertake, begin, urge, impel, further, promote; procure, get for, help to (2A).

 

ati overtake, be superior to (A).

apa turn away (intrans.).

abhi drive on.

ava seek after (A).

ā approach, drive on or near, undertake, begin, seize, take hold of.

upa strive after (A).

ni (Int veveti) penetrate, rush into or among (L).
