Secondary root-form, from √ bhaj (as denominative of bhakṣá); the non-“causative” forms only sporadic.
bhakṣati bhakṣate v older bhakṣáyati, bhakṣáyate, PPP bhakṣitá (q.v.) partake of, enjoy, eat, drink, devour, consume, waste, destroy. Caus. bhakṣáyati *cause a pers. (I or A) to eat (A); cf. also S. Des bibhakṣiṣati & bibhakṣayiṣati wish to eat or devour.
pari enjoy or drink (esp. what belongs to another), eat, feed on.
sam enjoy or devour (together).
