Divided by the Hindu grammarians into two roots, dṛṃh “fix”, and dṛh “grow”, from the latter of which are then derived dīrghá V.+ and the related words drā́ghīyas V.B.S., drā́ghiṣṭha RV., drāghmán V.B., drāghimán B. (drāghuyā́ TS.).
Meanings(dṛṃh) dṛṃheti v PPP dṛḍhá (q.v.) make or be firm; Ā dṛ́hate or dṛ́hyati, te only intrans. Caus. dṛṃhayati, PPP dṛṃhitá (q.v.) make firm, fortify, fix; m. hold fast, be firm. |
