It seems impossible to divide these forms (generally distributed to two different roots) from one another. The root has three well-marked stages of development: ṛj or ṛñj in RV., arj in Brāh., and arjaya in the later language. Compare also √ rāj probably a derivative from it. With it is related, further, the anomalously formed stem irajya (irajyáti -teetc. RV., and irajyú RV.), “direct, rule”. Meaningsṛj : ṛñjáti ṛñjáte ṛ́jyati ṛ́jyate 1 v stretch out (intrans.), strive after, long for.
abhi grasp, snatch. ā Ā strive after, long for. ni reach, attain. pra strive towards. sam strive together. Cf. irajy, yáti & ṛñjasāná.
árj : árjati 2 v reach, get, obtain. Caus. arjayati, arjayate = S.
ati get over, admit or remove. anu & ava dismiss. upa admit; Caus. get, acquire. |
