jānā́ti jānīté 1 v (jānati, jānate), PPP jñātá know, be or get aware of (A, r. G), recognize, ascertain, investigate, acknowledge, approve, perceive, observe, notice (A), remember (G); consider or regard as, understand or suppose that – (2A), know how to (Inf); *Ā have to do with, deal with (G). With na know nothing of (A). Caus. jñāpayati, te & jñapayati, te, PPP jñaptá & jñāpita inform, teach; announce, notify; make a person acquainted with (2A); Ā beg, request (A). Des jijñāsate (ti) wish to know, try, examine; ascertain, suppose. Des Caus. jñīpsati wish to make a person acquainted with (2A); PPP jñīpsyamāna wished or intended to be informed.
anu permit, grant, approve, forgive, pardon (G of pers.); empower, authorize to (D or ~ prati w. A); dismiss, bid farewell (A), be gracious or kind to (A). Caus. ask for permission or leave, take leave of (A). abhyanu & samanu the same.
abhi perceive, notice, understand, know; acknowledge as, think that (2A), concede, grant; agree, approve. pratyabhi recognize again, notice, understand, come to one's self, recover one's consciousness. samabhi know, recognize.
ava despise, sur
ā attend to, notice, hear, learn, understand. Caus. command, appoint a pers. (A) to (D or L). samā perceive, notice. Caus. bid, appo
upa & samupa think out, invent.
nis & vinis discern, find out.
pari observe, understand, ascertain, know thoroughly, know as (2A).
pra understand, distinguish, discern, be clever or wise, perceive, become aware of, find out.
prati acknowledge, recognize, approve, consent, agree, promise (D, G, r. L of pers., A of th.); Ā state, affirm, answer; perceive, observe, become aware of. saṃprati consent to, promise.
vi perceive, find out, observe, notice, hear from (G); consider as, understand or know that (2A); distinguish, discern, know thoroughly, become or be wise; vijñāyate it is well known or recognized (a rule, dogma, etc.); mā vijñāyi this (prec. N) is not to be understood (g.). Caus. make known, report, communicate, say that (2A); make one understand, apprise, teach; interrogate, beg, ask for (D, prati, artham, or nimittam*). abhivi become aware of, notice.
sam Ā be of one mind, agree together, harmonize with (L, *I or *A), obey (D); direct, appoint (A), understand, know. Caus. cause to agree together, unite; appease, satisfy; make understood, make signs or hints to (anyo 'nyam), order, command. abhisam agree in (A), acknowledge.
