Meanings

náyati náyate v PPP nītá 1 lead, guide, conduct, direct (l. & f.); carry away, remove; draw near, attract; bring to or into (A, esp. of an abstrans., prati, D, or L); Ā (P) lead home, i.e. marry (a wife); pass or spend (time); make out, ascertain, settle. – With ágram take the lead, head (G); w. daṇḍam bear the rod, i.e. inflict punishment; w. an Adv in sāt reduce to or change into, e.g. bhasmasāt; w. śūdratām make a person (A) a Śūdra; samatām make equal; w. duḥkham make unhappy. pain; w. pritoṣam gratify; w. kṣayam destroy (cf. ī & gam). Caus. nāyayati cause a pers. or th. to be led or carried away by (I) to (A). Des nínīṣati, te be willing to lead etc., to carry off, to bring into (A); to find out or ascertain.
