Doubtless originally the same with the preceding root, √ 1 vid. In some of their meanings, the two are so close together as hardly to be separable; and there are instances, from the Veda down, of exchanges of form between them.
Meaningsvindáti vindáte 3 v (vitté), PPP vittá & vinna (q.v.) find, meet with, get, obtain; visit, befall; have, possess; find out for, procure (D); look for, turn to (A); Ā (P) take to wife (bhāryām), find a husband, marry; bring forth (sutam). P.Ā be found, be there (impers.), exist. vidyáte (ti) there is (esp. w. na), yáthā vidé as it is, i.e. as usual or as well as possible. Des vivitsati wish to find. Int vévidat, vévidāna be present.
adhi supersede, supplant. anu find (after), get, obtain, take hold of; Ā bhāryām take to wife. P. be found, exist. abhi find, find out, know. ā get hold of, get at, acquire, incur, undergo. P. be, exist. nis divide from (Ab); Ā get rid of (G), take off (A); P. become depressed or dispirited, get weary of or disgusted with (Ab, I, r.
